EDISTO ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA

Edisto Island is a beautiful, quiet family vacation spot with a rich history.  The first known occupants of Edisto Island were the Edistow Indians, members of the Cusabo family of tribes.  The Spanish arrived in the 1500's with the English settlers following in the 1600's.  Planters grew rich producing Sea Island Cotton during the 1700's until after the Civil War.  Many of the plantation sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism offers a wonderful vacation experience at Edisto Beach State Park with camping facilities, cabins, nature trails and much more.
