EDISTO ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA

VISIT EDISTO BEACH.COM - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GREAT PLACE!

Edisto Island is a beautiful, quiet family vacation spot with a rich history.  The first known occupants of Edisto Island were the Edistow Indians, members of the Cusabo family of tribes.  The Spanish arrived in the 1500's with the English settlers following in the 1600's.  Planters grew rich producing Sea Island Cotton during the 1700's until after the Civil War.  Many of the plantation sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism offers a wonderful vacation experience at Edisto Beach State Park with camping facilities, cabins, nature trails and much more.

If you visit Edisto Island, the best place to eat, in my opinion is The Sea Cow Eatery.  You will have the best breakfast you've ever tasted in your life.  It's a small restaurant, a bit crowded and always full, but it is definitely worth the wait.  You think you've had good old Southern grits?  You haven't until you've tried the Sea Cow's grits!  Worth getting out of bed early for!

The photos below were taken on two separate trips to Edisto - to the State Park and on the island near Jeremy Cay.
