WINTER SCENES

Winter, 2004-2005, was our first cold season spent in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  The winter of 2006 has been very mild, but we managed to get some snow pictures in Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We discovered that winter is our favorite season in the mountains.  Winter opens up new vistas and offers silence and peace.

Visit our Water Ice page for more winter images.

January, 2006 - Cold Mountain Overlook - Blue Ridge Parkway (It was so cold that it was all I could do to hold onto the camera...but it was well worth it!)

These photos were taken in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, December, 2004 and January, 2005.

These four were taken from the Blue Ridge Parkway which was, unexpectedly, open for a short stretch on January 18, 2005.

The photos below were taken near Bamberg, South Carolina, on December 26, 2004.  An unexpected ice/snow storm hit an area that usually doesn't see this type of weather.
